We talked with Bruno, a last year medical student from Groningen, who is devoted to healthcare innovations. His ambition is to become a clinician-scientist in the field of eye care/ophthalmology.

He started working with easee for his internship in June this year. He is currently working on a research project, collecting data and analysing the results of the easee test.

Tell us a little about yourself: what is your professional/educational background?

My name is Bruno Lopes Cotta Barbosa and I am finalizing my last year of medical school in the Netherlands. In the past 6 years I have been developing my skills in the hospital setting to become a well-rounded doctor. I intend to pursue a residency in ophthalmology after graduating. This field provides me with a sense of gratification when working to preserve and improve people’s eyesight. Moreover, ophthalmology also promotes the use of technological innovations in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions.

Why did you choose Easee?

I reached out to Easee for a research internship after discovering their online-eye exam. The clinically proven and certified test offers others a way to provide prescriptions at home without any external assistance. Telehealth solutions such as this can aid in providing people more access to eyecare and decrease the health burden of visual impairment. Therefore, I am fortunate to find an opportunity to work with the company.

What project are you working on?

I will be working on collecting new clinical data in an upcoming study trial. The trial will evaluate the performance of the remote easee eye exam including new tools that have been implemented within the program.

What do you aim to learn from here?

I hope to gain a better understanding on how artificial intelligence can be implemented in the healthcare field. This is a concept that I believe future doctors have to become more aware of. Furthermore, I intend to further develop my knowledge on the field of optometry since it is quite relevant for me while pursuing a career in ophthalmology.

Thank you Bruno, we’re looking forward to your contribution.

Thank you, I’m looking forward to kick start the research.
